Welcome to The Aligned Self
I’m Annamarie, a therapist offering a thoughtful, affirming space for people who have often felt a little out of step with the world around them.
Many of the people I work with are neurodivergent, including those on the autism spectrum or with ADHD. This may be formally diagnosed or self-identified and for many it may be discovered later in life. You may have spent years adapting, masking, or pushing yourself to cope, without fully understanding why life can feel more intense or overwhelming than it seems for others.
People often come to therapy feeling burnt out, anxious, with a sense of disconnection from themselves and from others. You might have found yourself caught in unhelpful patterns, or even in addictive behaviours as a way of coping. There is often exhaustion from the constant pressure to keep up with the - let’s be honest - slightly insane pace of modern life, which can feel especially draining if you’re neurodivergent.
Therapy is a space to slow things down and come back to yourself. To feel less on edge and more settled in your body and mind. When that internal noise quietens, there is more space to think clearly, breathe more easily, and respond rather than just cope or react.
From there, it becomes easier to begin taking steps towards a life that feels more sustainable, more joyful, and more aligned with who you are
Therapy Approach
My approach is relational and grounded in established counselling practice. I work collaboratively, and often draw on experiential exercises to support insight, emotional processing, and change in a way that feels manageable and meaningful for you.
